• You buy a Rolls-Royce or Bentley motor car with your heart, not with your head. Because this is so: Employ a specialist to come with you who is really able to check the car - the money spent on the right person is well spent. At least take someone with you who is not involved, and keeps his brains turned on.
  
  
• Try to carry out the recommended service operations as scheduled by the manufacturer. Brake hoses, for example, should be replaced every ten years (two on Mk. VI/Silver Dawn, five on the S-Type/Silver Cloud, ten plus three at the height control on the T-Type/Silver Shadow). By doing so, you avoid embarrassing unvoluntary stops and costly repairs.
  
  
• Drive your Rolls-Royce or Bentley motor car as often as you can! These cars - the older ones as well - have been built to be driven, not for standing idle. A Silver Cloud, for example, is a wonderful car for travelling long distances - even in the winter. The cars suffer more from standing then from driving, and this the more, the younger the cars are. To own such a car and not drive it is similarly wanton as to have money and not spend it - miserliness here also is not attractive, but rather unerotic.
  
  
• Any Rolls-Royce car does attract much attention, a Bentley just slightly less - the attraction your are causing, the stupid questions you will hear without doubt, you have to live with. The more discreet the paintwork is, the lesser this effect will be.
  
  
• When you have to pay for an expensive spare part or a high repair bill, you should bear in mind: 99 percent of the cars built at the same time as your Silver Shadow have long since been scrapped, and made into beer cans (and even those have already been recycled).

• Kaufen Sie keinen modernen Rolls-Royce oder Bentley (also ab Baujahr 1966), der jahrelang nicht gefahren wurde - teure Reparaturen an Bremsen, Fahrwerk und Motor sind hier meistens fällig, und auch die Elektrik wird bei jeder Ausfahrt neue Überraschungen bereithalten.
  
  
• Klagen Sie nicht, wenn auch an einem Rolls-Royce oder Bentley Dinge kaputt gehen (“Ich dachte, ein Rolls-Royce ist für die Ewigkeit gebaut.”). Ein Autoleben ist üblicherweise auf zehn Jahre geplant, bei RR waren/sind es eher 20. Dummerweise werden diese Autos viel älter, als die Voraussicht der Konstrukteure reichen kann - seien Sie froh darüber!
  
  
• Kaufen Sie keinen Rolls-Royce oder Bentley, nur weil er billig ist - es sei denn, Sie suchen ein Hobby. Ein heruntergekommenes Fahrzeug wieder in den alten Zustand zu versetzen, ist viel teurer als der Mehrpreis für ein gepflegtes und/oder durchrepariertes Exemplar, selbst wenn Sie viel selber machen können.
  
  
• Setzen Sie nicht voraus, dass es Ihr Selbstbewußtsein hebt, wenn Sie ein solches Auto fahren - Sie sollten schon eine gute Portion davon mitbringen, um neben Ihrem Rolls-Royce noch sichtbar zu bleiben.
  
  
• Befürchten Sie keinen Sozialneid - meist wird die Schönheit, die Eleganz oder auch die Skurrilität eines Rolls-Royce oder Bentley neidlos anerkannt. Dies gilt um so mehr, je älter ein Fahrzeug ist.
